Jane's Addiction Gain New Member, New Music Imminent
On the heels of last year's successful reunion tour, Jane's Addiction have announced that they are set to remain together, despite the departure of bassist Eric Avery.
Frontman Perry Farrell said the group is carrying on with its original members, sans Avery, and is starting to write new music.
With the news, fans began to speculate on potential replacements, with the band's fan site, Xiola.org, suggesting former Guns N' Roses/current Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan as a frontrunner.
McKagan is a logical choice, as he is a longtime friend of the band and has performed with Jane's guitarist Dave Navarro in L.A. cover band Camp Freddy numerous times.
Despite the rumors, Farrell wouldn't divulge the name of the "mystery bassist," instead offering only that the addition of a new member was "very likely."
"We've got one great song so far called 'Top Dog,'" said Farrell, who added that the group had already begun writing with the new bassist.
"We're putting together a remix of 'Superhero,' the 'Entourage' theme," Farrell said regarding the eventual release of new music. Additionally, the singer revealed that Steve Porter would be doing the remix. "We figure that ought to be a phat track for clubs."
