Kiss to Appear in Super Bowl Commercial
Kiss is set to face off against an unlikely opponent this weekend: themselves. Not ones to ever shy away from any form of product placement, the band will appear during the Super Bowl's second quarter in a commercial for Dr. Pepper in which they face off against their own tribute band, Mini Kiss.
"The basic premise of this is I'm Dr. Love -- you're not," Simmons said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. "Dr. Love is here to make you all feel better, girls."
Mini Kiss, founded by Joey Fatale plug Dr. Pepper Cherry in the spot. Fatale, who plays Mini Gene, explained the tribute group's origin. "I said this'll be cool -- four little people dressed up as Kiss," Fatale explained of the group's origin.
Their first performance, at Manhattan's Studio 54, was well received, and they have now found commercial success.
"It's always the sincerest form of flattery," said Simmons. "Mini Kiss has everything that we have -- perhaps not the same size, but then size isn't important," Simmons cracked. "Yes, it is important, isn't it?"
